Vrbo is the platform where North American and Australian families go when they're planning a big family villa holiday. For the right Samui property, it's a source of week-long, high-value bookings that Airbnb and Booking.com under-serve.

Vrbo (Vacation Rentals by Owner, part of Expedia Group) has a loyal base of family travellers who prefer whole-home rentals and often book months in advance for peak holiday periods. Christmas week, Easter, US Independence Day and Australian school holidays are periods when Vrbo can outperform other channels for large-villa bookings on Koh Samui.

The platform functions differently from Airbnb. Longer average stay lengths mean fewer turnovers per booking and a different pricing calculus — weekly rates and minimum stays matter more. The payment system operates on a hold-and-release model that differs from Airbnb's per-booking payout. And the Premier Host programme, while less well-known than Airbnb's Superhost, provides meaningful ranking and visibility benefits.

We manage all channels through Hostaway. When a booking is confirmed on Vrbo, it automatically blocks those dates on Airbnb, Booking.com and our direct booking channel within minutes. Double-booking risk is effectively eliminated.

What minimum stay settings do you use on Vrbo?

We configure minimum stay rules dynamically. In high season, we typically set 7-night minimums for peak weeks to capture full-week family bookings.
