Lipa Noi

The west coast sunset belt — flat, quiet beaches and the longest stretch of calm water on Samui.

The Character

Lipa Noi is still predominantly coconut plantations and villa estates, with Nathon's ferry port to the north and Taling Ngam to the south. No nightlife, no crowds, just long sunset walks.

The Beach

Six kilometres of shallow, west-facing sand. You can walk out 50 metres and still be knee-deep. The best family-swimming beach on the island.

Where People Eat

Nikki Beach Samui's Sunday brunch, The Five Islands Restaurant, and a scattering of Thai beachside kitchens.

Who Lipa Noi Suits Best

Families with young children, sunset wedding parties, ferry-day-trip guests, and owners looking for wide, flat beachfront parcels.

Rental Outlook for Owners

Strong week-plus ADR; less walk-in demand than the east coast. Sunset beachfront villas have the highest premium.

Why Buy Here

Some of the only remaining flat, buildable beachfront on Samui. Strong appeal for wedding-and-event hosting use cases.

Nearby

Nathon (7 min), Taling Ngam (5 min), Samui Airport (35 min).

Practical Guide

The beach faces west. Lipa Noi is the local consensus answer to the question 'where's the best sunset on Samui'. Fine white sand, no jet-skis (the bay is too shallow), flat calm water, and the sun drops directly behind Koh Phangan in November–March or behind the hills further west in summer. The beach is around four kilometres long and most of it is genuinely empty.

Seasonality. Lipa Noi is the inverse of Bo Phut and Chaweng — its quietest months are October–December (when the east coast is also rainy, but the northeast monsoon brings flat seas to the west), and its strongest months are January–April for couples and December–February for honeymooners. Summer (May–September) gets occasional southwest squalls but most days are usable.

Drive times. Nathon 7 minutes north. Taling Ngam 8 minutes south. Lipa Noi pier (Raja Ferry to mainland) 5 minutes. Samui Airport 35 minutes. Chaweng 30 minutes. The west-coast road is smooth and quiet — driving here genuinely feels different to the east coast scrum.

Day-to-day amenities. Nearest large supermarket: Tesco Lotus Nathon (10 minutes) or Big C Nathon (10 minutes). Nearest A&E: Bangkok Hospital Samui's Nathon branch (10 minutes) for non-major issues, the main Chaweng hospital (30 minutes) for emergencies. Lipa Noi itself has a thin strip of beachside seafood places — Five Islands and Nikki Beach (a longer drive south to Taling Ngam) are the standout sit-down options.

For owners. Lipa Noi attracts a couples-skewed and honeymooner-skewed market, with longer average stays and higher willingness to pay for genuine privacy. ADR for a well-presented 3-bed beachfront villa runs 20,000–38,000 THB/night in peak. Plot availability is the most generous of any beach area on the island, and build cost is reasonable. The honest trade-off is distance from the airport and from Chaweng nightlife — guests who want to be 'where the action is' should not be sent here.

The Five Islands view. Lipa Noi's defining visual is the cluster of five small islands offshore — they appear in nearly every villa marketing photo on this stretch and they're worth a longtail-boat day trip from Thong Krut pier (40 minutes south).
