Chaweng Noi
Chaweng's quieter sister bay — hillside ocean-view villas with the action ten minutes away.
The Character
Steep green hillsides dropping to a quiet bay. This is where many of Samui's trophy villas live — infinity pools over the Gulf of Thailand, walls of glass, and no road noise. You drive to dinner, but the drives are short.
The Beach
Small curved bay between Chaweng and Lamai, partly hotel-private but with a lovely public stretch at the northern end.
Where People Eat
InterContinental's Air Bar, Vela Samui, Beach Republic, and easy runs north to Chaweng or south to Lamai.
Who Chaweng Noi Suits Best
Groups and families who want a view over density, owners targeting premium villa tiers, anyone renting a car for the trip.
Rental Outlook for Owners
Very strong ADR for view-led villas. 5-bed sea-view properties regularly run THB 35,000–70,000/night.
Why Buy Here
Hillside lots are irreplaceable. The view is the product — and nobody can build one above you once you're on a ridge.
Nearby
Chaweng (5–8 min), Lamai (10 min), Airport (15 min).
Practical Guide
The bay faces east. Swimming is year-round in the calm months and choppy in October–December when the northeast monsoon comes around the headland from Lamai. The southern third of the bay sits in the lee of the Imperial / InterContinental headland and stays calmer through the wet season — that's where the best swim mornings happen.
Seasonality. Peak demand runs December through February — view-led villas with infinity pools and wide ocean panoramas command top of market in this window, and the same property can ask 50–80% above shoulder rates. The slowest period is typically October–November; we lift occupancy through that window with shorter minimum stays and dynamic pricing — see our piece on how dynamic pricing actually works on Samui.
Drive times. Chaweng centre 5–8 minutes. Lamai 10 minutes. Samui Airport 15 minutes. Bo Phut / Fisherman's Village 18 minutes. Lipa Noi sunset coast 35 minutes if you take the southern bypass.
Day-to-day amenities. Nearest large supermarket: Tesco Lotus Chaweng (8 minutes) or Makro Samui (12 minutes). Nearest A&E: Bangkok Hospital Samui in Chaweng (8 minutes), one of the best-equipped private hospitals on the island. Nearest international school: Panyadee British International School (15 minutes).
For owners. Chaweng Noi is where premium villa investment lives on Samui. The hillside lots are effectively irreplaceable — once a ridge is built out, nobody can put another villa above you to ruin the view. ADR for a well-presented 4-to-5-bed sea-view villa regularly clears 35,000–70,000 THB/night in peak season, with our better-managed properties seeing 50–60% occupancy across the year. The trade-off is build cost (steep slopes need engineering) and access roads (some are unsealed in their final 200 metres) — both of which are solvable, but worth knowing before you buy.
Common guest questions. Yes, you need a vehicle here — restaurants and the beach are not walkable from most villas. Most of our Chaweng Noi guests rent a car for the week and a soft-top or scooter for one or two beach days.
